England - North York Moors to Scarborough

Rievaulx Abbey seen here from the Rievaulx Temple grounds, gives you an idea of just how large it was. This stone monastery reminds us of the 1140s cloister buildings at Fountains Abbey near Ripon that we visited the previous week. It also still survives in places to its full height.
